NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION SHEET
The following information is presented for educational purposes to provide people with non-pharmaceutical alternatives to disease prevention and management. Other than SPIZ, I no longer sell any of the supplements listed, but can provide information on where and how to get them if need be. I am also available for nutritional consultations to help show you how to get off of dangerous pharmaceutical drugs by using safe and effective nutritional supplements. Email me at: bikeice@aol.com.
ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, MIGRAINE HEADACHES, PANIC ATTACKS, PMS, SLEEP
5-Hydroxy Tryptophan (C5-HTP): The compound serotonin is the brains feel good neurotransmitter. A deficiency state, which is more common in women, leads to anxiety, depression, panic attacks and food cravings. 5-HTP is the immediate precursor to serotonin, and may elevate brain serotonin levels as effectively as Prozac, Paxil or Zoloft, but without side effects. PMS has also been found to be relieved with 5-HTP and sleep is improved in those not responding to melatonin.
Recommended dose: 100 mg 2-4 times/day on an empty stomach
St. Johns Wort / Kava Kava: Mild-to-moderate depression has been found to respond to this extract of the Hypericum flower. It works by inhibiting the breakdown several brain neurotransmittors (dopamine, serotonin etc.). TVs 20/20 aired a report on St. Johns Wort and concluded it was more effective than Prozac or other serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drugs. Kava Kava comes from a South Pacific tree and has documented anxiety reducing effects.
Recommended dose: 1-3 capsules (10 mg) twice/day
Creatine: When taken correctly, creatine monohydrate has been documented in multiple studies to improve high intensity, short duration performance such as sprints or explosive efforts such as weight lifting, throwing events, etc..
Recommended dose: 20 grams/day x 3-4 days as a loading dose followed by 4-5 grams/day as a maintenance dose.
Dimethylglycine (DMG): DMG appears to improve oxygenation on a cellular level through a process known as methylation. DMG donates its two methyl groups thereby acting as a cofactor to vitamins, fats, hormones and proteins in their metabolic cycles. DMG works quickly (usually in 30-60 minutes) and improves energy levels and stamina.
Recommended dose: 90 mg sublingually 30-60 minutes before exercise.
Glutamine: No amino acid is as important in promoting muscle anabolism as glutamine. Intracellular glutamine levels are directly correlated with protein synthesis. 2 grams of glutamine taken orally at bedtime have also been shown to significantly elevate human growth hormone levels while sleeping. A new form of covalent bonded L-Glutamine is the most effective form and is available at http://biomolecularsciences.com.
Recommended dose: 2 grams at bedtime for hGH release. 2-5 grams three times/day during periods of heavy training.
Siberian Ginsing: You may have seen ads with Joe Montana pushing a product known as Endurox (Whats Joe Montana got to do with endurance??). The active ingredient in Endurox is Siberian Ginseng which has been found to shift metabolism from carbohydrates to fatty acids.
Recommended dose: 500 mg 2-3 X/day
Sodium Pyruvate: I do not recommend pyruvate for weight loss since it takes 30 grams/day to achieve even modest bodyfat losses! However for endurance athletes, pyruvate has been scientifically proven to increase performance 10-15%.
Recommended dose: 5-8 grams daily
Spizerinctum (SPIZ): For any athletic or endurance event lasting 3 hours or more, SPIZ will keep your energy up, prevent muscle catabolism and promote quicker recovery. Changes in the formula in the last 2 years include increased sodium and potassium as well as a more hydrolyzed whey protein for easier absorption and the addition of covalent bonded L-Glutamine.
Recommended use: 3-4 servings/day pre-event for carbohydrate loading purposes prior to an event.

ATHEROSCLEROSIS/CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE
Vitamin C with L-Lysine, B6, B12, & folic acid: Linus Pauling spent many years researching the therapeutic benefits of Vitamin C. He concluded in his early 90s that 3,000 mg of Vitamin C combined with 3,000 mg of L-lysine and L-Proline can prevent and arrest atherosclerosis. Dr. George Willis actually published a study in 1953 showing angiographic reversal of arterial plaque with as little as 500 mg/day of Vitamin C! Dr. Kilmer McKully reported elevated levels of homocysteine causes atherosclerosis in 1969! It can be readily lowered with Vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid. Recommended: www.homocysteine.com for more information.
| Recommended dose: | Vitamin C - 3000 mg/day |
| Lysine - 3000 mg/day | |
| Proline - 500 mg/day | |
| Vitamin B6 - 50 mg/day | |
| Vitamin B12 - 1 mg/day | |
| Folic Acid - 1 mg/day |
Coenzyme Q10/Magnesium: A large body of scientific literature has documented the effectiveness of Co Q10 in ameliorating congestive heart failure and prolonging survival in these folks. Magnesium is the one mineral Americans are most deficient in and has anti-arrhythmic and myocardial contractility enhancing effects. Co Q10 is a fat soluable nutrient and should be in a soft gel, oil filled capsule.
| Recommended dose: | Co Q10 - 100 - 600 mg/day |
| Chelated Magnesium - 600 - 800 mg/day |
Cetyl Myristoleate (CMO): Dr. Harry Diehl spent over 10 years synthesizing this naturally occuring fatty acid from the joints of Swiss albino mice who simply do not develope arthritis. When Diehl himself developed arthritis in his hands and wrists at age 80, he corrected it with a 2 week course of CMO.
Recommended dose: 6 capsules/day in between meals x 30 days. Consume nothing but water before and after taking CMO. Do not consume alcohol, chocolate or tea for 6 weeks after starting CMO.
Glucosamine Sulfate: I personally have been using glucosamine sulfate in my arthritis patients for over 12 years. Many studies show it be be as effective as anti-inflammatory medications, and like CMO, when combined with high doses of Vitamin C may ameliorate arthritis. Chondroitan which is included in many glucosamine formulas, has not been shown to improve joint pain relief over glucosamine sulfate alone, probably because its large molecular structure prevents GI absorption.
Recommended dose: 3000 mg/day x 2-3 months with 3,000 mg of Vitamin C, then a maintenance dose of 1000 mg/day.
Let me begin by expressing my strong anti diet sentiments. I firmly believe low calorie diets do more harm than good in the vast majority of Americans. I know because I see an increased incidence of insulin resistance, diabetes, degenerative joint disease, hypertension, hypo-thyroidism and heart disease in dieters than non-dieters. Why? Because low calorie means less nutrients, reduced vitamins, reduced minerals. Whatever minimal health benefit comes from weight loss is more than offset by the deleterious effects of resetting the body weight set point and metabolic rate at ever lower levels as well as depriving the body of important nutrients.
If one wants to alter their looks for cosmetic reasons, then the goal is twofold:
1) Increase lean body mass (LBM)
2) Decrease
bodyfat (%BF)
In this scenario there will not be any weight loss as measured by a scale, and there will probably be a weight gain (horrors!) as muscle gained outweighs fat lost. This is the only body repartitioning strategy that makes any sense and will actually improve your health. Your clothes will fit better also. Pharmacologically, one can achieve these results via:
1) Testosterone replacement therapy and its anabolic steroid cousins; No question they work effectively when done correctly and are very safe.
2) Hormone Growth hormone (hGH) therapy: hGH is a very effective bodyfat loss hormone. It has many other health rejuvenating effects but at $500/month is out of reach for many people until the patent runs out shortly.
3) Beta Agonist drugs: Clenbuterol is one example of a sympathomimetic drug that increases lipolysis (fat breakdown) as well as promoting muscle hypertrophy. Unfortunately jangling your nervous system causes attenuation (higher doses needed) as well as unacceptable side effects for many people.
In the nutritional field there is one substance I believe will have similar, though less pronounced, effects.
Congugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): Several animal studies of this essential fatty acid have documented modest gains in LBM with simultaneous bodyfat losses. No rigorously controlled studies have been published in humans (yet) but there is quite a bit of anectodotal evidence it works in people.
Recommended dose: 3 capsules/day although 6 may produce faster results.
Beta 1, 3/1,6 Glucan: This is a yeast extract that strengthens the immune system by activating cells known as macrophages. These are biological Pac Men that consume viruses, bacteria, parasites and tumor cells. Beta 1,3/1,6 glucan is recommended for those with compromised immune systems such as cancer patients, particularly those on chemotherapeutic drugs which would further compromise the immune system.
Recommended dose: 3 mg 3 x/day
Calcium D - Glucarate: Calcium D-Glucarate is the calcium salt of D-glucaric acid. Recent research suggests this compound enhances glucuronidation, which allows the body to detoxify fat-soluble toxins and steroid hormones. The immediate application is in women on synthetic estrogen replacement (i.e. Premarin) or who are at risk of breast cancer.
Recommended dose: 1000-1500 mg with meals 3 x/daily.
Chaparral: Chaparral comes from a dark olive green plant native to the southwestern U.S. and Mexico. Chaparral is known for its immune stimulating effects via nor-dihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA). It has been consumed for centuries by native Americans as a tea to treat cancer, arthritis, colds, skin infections and other diseases. It can be taken as a tea, or in capsules and should be combined with a dietary program emphasizing fruits and vegetables, vitamin and mineral supplements and other immune system boosting strategies.
Recommended dose: Tea - 4 ounces of chaparral mixed in a 2 quart bottle with 1 cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes, then fill to the top with boiling water. Seal, sit in the sun for 2 days and strain. Drink 2-3 cups/day.
Hydrazine Sulfate: This compound received a great deal of notoriety when Kathy Keaton (wife of the publisher of Penthouse) cured her breast cancer with it. A growing number of terminal cancer patients have experienced tumor stabilization and remission through hydrazine sulfate therapy. H.S. seems to work by reversing cachexia, the wasting process that ultimately leads to death in two-thirds of all cancer patients. Weight gain, restored appetite, extended survival and a reduction in pain has been experienced by cancer patients of all types.
Recommended dose: 60 mg/day for 4 days, then 120 mg/day for 4 days, then 180 mg/day for the next 6 weeks.
Lycopene: This newly discovered plant extract which is a powerful antioxidant of singlet oxygen, is present in tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries and all other red fruits. It is a potent cancer cell inhibitor, particularly prostate cancer cells which have been found to be reduced by 50%. Epidemiologic studies have also shown a 35% reduction in prostate cancer incidence from the consumption of foods containing lycopene.
Recommend dose: 10 mg twice daily
Melatonin: If you thought melatonin was just to help people sleep better, think again! Melatonin is a very powerful immune enhancing compound as well as antioxidant produced by the pineal gland in the brain. Melatonin may be the single most important agent in preventing breast cancer, and when combined with Interleuken-2, improves survival in lung, colon, gastric and brain cancers.
Recommended dose: 1-10 mg, 1.5-2 hours before bedtime for sleep purposes. 25-75 mg combined with IL-2 for metastatic cancer.
Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP): Pectin is a natural fiber present in citrus fruit that is not absorbable by the human digestive tract. It can be pH modified to create smaller polysacharide fragments that are easily absorbable. MCP has been found to provide added protection against cancer by helping to inhibit the spread of cancer cells. In animals, MCP has been shown to be very effective in preventing the spread of prostate cancer to the lungs and lymph nodes.
Recommended dose: 2 teaspoons (5 grams) mixed in with water or juice in a blender, increasing to 4-6 teaspoons daily over a 1-2 week period
Pau dArco: This herb is extracted from the inner bark of the Tabebuia tree native to Brazil and Argentine as well as India. In South America, it is used widely as a treatment for cancer, colds, flus, fever, malaria, infections, and one type of lupus. The active ingredient in Pau dArco is lapachol which builds immunity to disease, combats infection, and reduces pain and inflammation. One study of 9 patients with various cancers showed 250 mg 3 x/day with meals had shrinkage of tumors and pain in all 9. Three showed complete remission and no side effects were observed.
Recommended dose: 450 mg 2 x/day with meals
Vanadyl sulfate/Chromium picolinate: Both of these trace minerals are very effective insulin mimickers. They seem to make your own insulin work better lowering blood insulin and sugar levels. If you are diabetic, you must have a blood glucometer to check your blood sugar 2-3 x/day to assess its effectiveness and track your progress.
| Recommended dose: | Vanadyl Sulfate - 20 to 40 mg/day |
| Chromium Picolinate - 1000 mcg/day |
Undecyn: Although the conventional medical field believes gout results from elevated uric acid caused by abnormal purine metabolism, there is an alternative view. It holds that the human body does not have the enzyme present in the body to convert purines into uric acid. Instead, high levels of intestinal fungus in the GI tract that can do this biochemical conversion is to blame. Undecyn contains an old time remedy (calcium undecylenate) and grapefruit seed extract that kill off intestinal fungus, thus getting rid of gout. I have used this on gout subjects with excellent results!
Recommended dose: 3 capsules/day for 1 month, then 6 capsules/day for 2 months, then stop.
MEMORY / MOOD ENHANCEMENT / ARTHRITIS
Pregnenolone is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands and synthesized from cholesterol. In the 1940s pregnenolone was used as an effective treatment for rheumatoid arthritis without any toxic side effects. It has been ignored by conventional medicine until recently when its beneficial central nervous sustem effects were noticed. Studies of individuals with emotional problems have documented low pregnenolone levels in their cerebrospinal fluid. Depression-free individuals have pregnenolone levels that are twice as high as those with chronic depression. Studies of rats in mazes have shown a one hundred-fold improvement in memory with pregnenolone administration.
Recommended dose: 50 mg/day for 2 months. Increase to 100 mg/day if no improvement. Discontinue if no results after 2 more months.
PARKINSONS DISEASE, CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME, ALZHEIMERS DISEASE
NADH(Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide): NADH is a metabolate of niacinamide, a form of Vitamin B3. Dr. Jorg Birkmeyer from Austria has pioneered the use of NADH in Parkinsons Disease and Alzheimers. In both diseases, NADH supplements improves dopamine synthesis and cognitive ability after 5-6 months of use. Chronic fatigue syndrome results from a lack of ATP, the bodys basic energy molecule. NADH supplementation in these patients has been found to increase energy levels.
Recommended dose: 5 mg 2 x/day for Parkinsons Disease, 10-20 mg/day for Alzheimers, always on an empty stomach. For chronic fatigue syndrome 20-30 mg/day is recommended.
DMSO: DMSO stands for dimethylsulfoxide, and is an organic sulfur solvent first synthesized by a Russian chemist in 1866. Commercially it has been produced for over 50 years via the conversion of wood pulp to paper. Over 6000 articles about DMSO exist in the scientific literature on its use in a whole variety of ailments including cancer, protection against radiation and its side effects, protection against free radical assault from chemotherapy, arthritis, intestinal cystitis (a bladder condition) bursitis and musculoskeletal disorders such as sprains, strains and sore muscles (DMSO is a powerful local anti-inflammatory).
Recommended use: Apply to clean skin 2-4 x/day for pain relief.
PABA stands for para-aminobenzoic acid, a compound that is considered to be part of the B vitamin family. Although PABA is not a true vitamin, it has been shown to be an essential nutrient for humans and of great value in treating several medical conditions. At high doses, PABA acts as an anti-fibrotic agent, that is it prevents or reverses the accumulation of abnormal fibrous tissue. Scleroderma, dermatomyositis, Peyronies disease and Dupuytrens contracture of the ring finger are examples. Several skin conditions including vitiligo (what Michael Jackson has) are also improved with PABA.
Recommended use: Apply a small amount of topical PABA 2-3 x/day to clean skin over the affected area.
Pyridoxine is Vitamin B6. There are a number of studies going back to the early 70s showing carpal tunnel syndrome can be relieved with oral supplementation of Vitamin B6 after 2-4 months. It occurred to me that non-responders or slow responders may not be achieving enough GI tract absorption, and putting the B6 right into carpal tunnel area might solve this problem. I have had excellent results utilizing topical B6 for tendonitis and bursitis as well.
Suggested use: Apply a small amount to clean skin over the wrist or affected tendon/bursa 3 x/day.
UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS / SYSTEMIC INFECTIONS / URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS
Bio Pro Thymic Protein A: Dr. Terry Beardsley spent the better part of 17 years researching how to synthesize and stabilize this thymus gland extract. The thymus gland produces a number of immune system messengers and T-cells that are activated to kill off invading bacteria, virus and even cancer cells. He succeeded and Thymic Protein A is the result.
Recommended use: Dissolve one packet sublingually for 3 minutes, 3-6 x/day.
Olive Tree Extract: This extract of the olive tree leaf has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, as do many other plant compounds. Many AIDS patients use this agent to help ward off opportunistic infections.
Recommended use: 1-2 capsules 3 x/day
D-Mannose: Ninety percent of all urinary tract infections are from the E. Coli bacteria. E. Coli establishes colonies inside the bladder by attaching themselves to the bladder wall with their lectin structures. Mannose is a sugar not used by the human body, so it passes through the kidneys intact into the bladder. Once there, E. Coli bacteria present attach themselves to this sugar rather than to the bladder wall. Thus, they are flushed out preventing infection. My daughter who had bladder reflux was very susceptable to UTIs. She was on mannose for 2½ years (with a cranberry extract to keep the urine acidified) without any antibiotics and no UTIs.
Recommended dose: 1 tsp mixed in juice daily
